In 2018-19 school year, I founded the SBS Mathletes Program to tutor middle school kids at St. Bernadette School and ran it with guidance from the math teachers at the school,
Mr. Moran and Mrs. Kapoor. The program also helped my fellow high school classmates volunteer as tutors, to earn volunteer hours for their Junior year.
My classmates and
I enjoyed teaching math to an enthusiastic group of around 30 students from 6th through 8th grades. We were happy to see the students perform well in the Saint John’s Spring Math
meet in April 2019. The Mathletes preparation helped the students stand 4th place in the meet. I ran the program again this year, but due to the corona virus pandemic, the competitions
were cancelled. It was still really fun to work with the students again. I plan on passing the program on to one of the Mass Academy students so that they can keep running it.
